Is it worth buying in Aberdeen?

So, I work in engineering and The median home value here is around $84,100, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Aberdeen sits at 331.3 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. With a population of 4,909, Aberdeen is a small town. Poverty rate is 13.2%, which is around average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited cultural events
Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
