Alright, I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $205,500, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 28,297, Aberdeen is a smaller city. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Any advice would be great.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is average in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Charlotte about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to LA it's decent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 38, moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Pine Hills and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The public transit situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
