Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider — Abilene sits at 370.4 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,106 for rent here. Poverty rate is 10.2%, which is around average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.
