Affordable areas near Abilene?

First post here. It's a a mid-size city city with about 127K people. Median household income is $62,720, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $178,900 on average. The median home value here is around $178,900, which is actually reasonable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.
