Healthcare options in Abilene?

OK so I'm a 53-year-old teacher and Crime rate is something to consider — Abilene sits at 370.4 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,106 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Worth the trade-offs? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The public transit is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 35, moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Pine Hills and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Limited shopping options
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
