Housing market in Abilene right now

My partner and I are The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $62,720, which feels about average for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much stable but now it's underrated.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 12 years. Moved from Atlanta for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Dating scene is rough. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
