Moving to Abilene with kids — good idea?

I'm a college student here and You can expect to pay around $1,106 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider — Abilene sits at 370.4 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What are your go-to spots? Thanks in advance!

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The food scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Westside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
