Just moved here 5 months ago and With a population of 17,008, Abington is a small town. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Abington? TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I work in retail here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in The Heights for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- The public transit scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..
