Honest thoughts on life in Addison

Longtime lurker here, We're a young couple and Household incomes average around $82,858 in Addison. It's a a small town city with about 17,128 people. The median home value here is around $466,000, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 1 years. Moved from Austin for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Uptown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The weather scene is solid

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Denver it's average.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 56, moved here 1 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Lakewood and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
