Random thought, Just moved here 13 months ago and Poverty rate is 15.8%, which is higher than I expected. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much reasonable but now it's improving.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in government. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.
