Moving to Affton for work -advice?

Been meaning to ask this. Born and raised here. Rent is about $978/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $77,337 in Affton. It's a a small town city with about 20,035 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Boston it's hit or miss.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Came here for school and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The public transit is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
