Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $1,053,000 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned?

I've lived in Riverside for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 13 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is solid - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Limited shopping options. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.
