Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $1,053,000 on average. Average temperature is around 78--F, so it's warm year-round. Median household income is $135,286, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Any advice would be great. Thanks! The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Boston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 2 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
