Things that make Aiken unique

First post here. You can expect to pay around $1,199 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 32,334 people. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Aiken sits at 575.6 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I work in healthcare here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is challenging. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..
