Honest thoughts on life in Akron

The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. You can expect to pay around $930 for rent here. Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $111,200 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Active local events

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Not enough green space
Worth the trade-offs? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The dating scene is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
