Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Alamogordo sits at 342.4 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Background: I'm a chef, 30, moved here 2 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Westside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
