Job market in Albany for tech?

Anyone else feel this way? Rent is about $2,389/month for a decent place. With a population of 19,768, Albany is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 199.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 19,768 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Anyone in a similar situation? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.
