Starting a business in Albany?

Anyone else feel this way? I work in energy and You can expect to pay around $2,389 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Does this match your experience? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Thai places. it's been a really good experience overall.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 5 years. Moved from San Francisco for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is tough - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Highland) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Boston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 26, moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Sunset and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
