Albany in the winter -how bad?

Household incomes average around $45,201 in Albany. With a population of 67,939, Albany is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'm a nurse and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Greenfield area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 12 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 8 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Midtown and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The cost of living situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- The safety scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
