Best industries in Albany right now

Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 1,053.5 per 100K. The median home value here is around $118,700, which is actually reasonable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts?

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Minneapolis it's hit or miss.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- The traffic scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 8 years. Moved from Miami for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited shopping options. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.
