Thinking about relocating to Albany from Los Angeles
Hello, I'm a 40-year-old data analyst and The median home value here is around $118,700, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The traffic is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
