What to expect moving to Albany?
Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 24.2%, which is higher than I expected. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $45,201, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 67,939, Albany is a smaller city. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
