Curious what people think. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 127.3 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $352,900, which seems about average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The public transit scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
