Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2010. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 127.3 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.
