OK so I'm a 53-year-old data analyst and The unemployment rate is 6.0%, which is about average. Median household income is $45,474, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a a small town city with about 5,495 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? Thanks for reading. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I work in education here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is tough. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in East area are tough. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in real estate. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Baltimore it's improving.
