Salary expectations in Albuquerque?

OK honest question -

Born and raised Albuquerque. Never left. People here are friendlier than I expected coming from St. Louis.

A friend just bought in Los Ranchos for K and I'm not sure if that was smart. Property values in Nob Hill went up 9% last year alone.

What I like:
- Growing job market
- Nice downtown area
- Easy to meet people
- Good healthcare options
- Strong arts and culture scene

What I don't:
- Summers are brutal
- Chain restaurants everywhere
- Hard to date here

The food scene in Los Ranchos is honestly incredible. I don't understand why more people don't talk about Los Ranchos.

Talk me through this.

OK let me break this down from someone who's been here a while.

North Valley vs Rio Rancho: completely different vibes. North Valley is more pretty good with walkable streets and local shops. Rio Rancho is up-and-coming and better for singles.

Cost-wise, expect /mo minimum for anything decent in North Valley. In Rio Rancho you can find stuff for /mo.

The {industry} scene here is really picking up.. The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible.

Not to be negative but the nightlife is overrated. I still like living here overall though. Just keeping it real.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 1 years:

The good:
- Easy to meet people
- Good airport
- Good internet

The not-so-good:
- Nightlife is lacking
- Tourist crowds

I feel like {city} is becoming more expensive without getting better.. I'd say for singles, Albuquerque is pretty good.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 6 years:

The good:
- Great food scene
- Good parks and trails
- Pet-friendly city

The not-so-good:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable

Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here.. I'd say for singles, Albuquerque is pretty good.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Albuquerque.

Background: 47, single guy, moved from Pittsburgh 8 years ago for work. Currently in University area.

**Housing:**
The market is improving right now. We went with University area because it was walkable. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at South Valley - it's lively and the value is better.

**Work:**
finance jobs are stable here. I was worried coming from Pittsburgh but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.

**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 18 months were tough. Then I found my people through a local meetup group. Now I have a solid group. Albuquerque people are friendly once you break through.

**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: manageable
- Traffic: honestly terrible
- Dining out: better than you'd expect
- Entertainment: solid local scene

**Would I move here again?**
The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible.. For retirees, I'd give it a 7/10.
