Alexander City vs Chicago -which is better?

Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Does this match your experience? Cheers. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 29, moved here 15 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Greenfield and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is challenging in most areas.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is excellent in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
