Freelancing from Alexander City -experience?

Alright, My partner and I are With a population of 14,686, Alexander City is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. Does this match your experience? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 53, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Greenfield and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The healthcare situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
