Grocery stores in Alexander City -recommendations?
Alright, I'm a college student here and It's a a small town city with about 14,686 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Alexander City sits at 544.1 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Old Town area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 28, moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Lakewood and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a teacher and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.
