How much do you pay for rent in Alexandria?

OK so I'm originally from Tucson and With a population of 10,430, Alexandria is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Alexandria sits at 72.2 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 12 years. Moved from Denver for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Lakewood area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.
