Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $2,031 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Oak Park area are tough. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
