What I love about living in Alexandria

I've been living in Alexandria, VA for 4 years now and honestly, there's a lot to love. The food scene is amazing. Lots of local events and festivals. The community here is solid and supportive. If you're thinking about moving here, feel free to ask me anything.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Westside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. University District and Pine Grove are perfectly safe.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 13 years and my experience is very similar.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

I've lived in University District for 14 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

I'd add that healthcare options are better than most cities this size. Otherwise spot on!

The job market has been improving lately. Several government companies moved in recently.

Rent tip: look for places in October-November. Prices drop and there's more availability.
