What I wish I knew before living in Algonquin

My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Algonquin sits at 74.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $131,753 in Algonquin. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Pittsburgh it's excellent.

I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (The Heights) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.
