Why I chose Alhambra over bigger cities

Alright, The median home value here is around $812,700, which is pretty steep. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Eastside area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Pittsburgh it's tough.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 26, moved here 15 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Old Town and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Can feel isolated
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
