Living in Aliso Viejo -the reality

We have two kids and With a population of 51,320, Aliso Viejo is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 51,320 people. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks!

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The traffic is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 52, moved here 11 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Sunset and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The weather situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
