Should I move to Aliso Viejo or stay in Omaha?

Crime rate is something to consider -Aliso Viejo sits at 51.7 per 100K. Homes are going for about $863,800 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. With a population of 51,320, Aliso Viejo is a smaller city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a chef and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is average and there's always something going on.
