Allen job market vs Sacramento

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. With a population of 108K, Allen is a mid-size city. Rent is about $1,877/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a writer and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is average and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 48, moved here 14 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in East and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
