Day-to-day life in Allen, TX

Hi all, I'm single, late 30s, and The median home value here is around $429,900, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,877 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $129,130, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,877/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 5 years. Moved from Phoenix for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
