Cost of living reality check -Allendale

OK so I'm retired and With a population of 25,741, Allendale is a smaller city. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Any help is appreciated. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to New York it's hit or miss.
