Random thought, I'm a 46-year-old project manager and Homes are going for about $287,600 on average. Median household income is $68,449, which feels about average for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Should I be concerned? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much wild but now it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 2 years. Moved from Dallas for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Property taxes are high. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
