First post here. I'm originally from Orlando and It's a a mid-size city city with about 125K people. Median household income is $53,403, which feels on the lower side for the area. The unemployment rate is 5.5%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Worth the trade-offs? Any help is appreciated. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in East area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The weather is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 9 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Bugs and humidity in summer. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 13 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited shopping options. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Houston it's hit or miss.
