First post here. Poverty rate is 17.3%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $53,403, which feels on the lower side for the area. The median home value here is around $188,900, which is actually reasonable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in The Heights for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The healthcare scene is tough
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in South area are better than expected. Kids love it here.
