Alliance housing prices -when will it stop?

Hi all, It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 58, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is underrated in most areas.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Uptown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
