Moving to Aloha with kids -good idea?

Crime rate is something to consider -Aloha sits at 134.5 per 100K. With a population of 53,362, Aloha is a smaller city. The weather takes some getting used to. Let me know your thoughts. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much wild but now it's decent.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 3 years. Moved from Minneapolis for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Homeless population growing downtown. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 6 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.
