Biggest downsides of living in Alpena?

I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $599 for rent here. Median household income is $47,604, which feels on the lower side for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Would love some local perspective. TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a data analyst and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.
