Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 4.9%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What would you do? Cheers. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 32, moved here 5 years ago from Austin. I've lived in North and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The school system situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Chicago about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
