Random thought, Been living here since 2014. Rent is about $1,874/month for a decent place. With a population of 66,355, Alpharetta is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 66,355 people. Household incomes average around $146,581 in Alpharetta. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Does this match your experience? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from New York about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 10 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 52, moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Fairview and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much affordable but now it's excellent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 1 years. Moved from Baltimore for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited entertainment options. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
