Cost of living reality check -Alpine

Anyone else feel this way? Just moved here 11 months ago and Homes are going for about $810,000 on average. It's a a small town city with about 15,470 people. You can expect to pay around $2,025 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. What do you all think? The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is solid in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Boston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 11 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited entertainment options. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
