Why I chose Alpine over bigger cities

Alright, Crime rate is something to consider -Alpine sits at 318.0 per 100K. With a population of 15,470, Alpine is a small town. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 56, moved here 12 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in South for 13 years. Moved from Denver for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Far from beaches/mountains. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
