Worst things about Alpine nobody talks about

Hello, Been living here since 2023. The median home value here is around $893,400, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Alpine sits at 42.5 per 100K. Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Denver about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 5 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much competitive but now it's surprisingly good.
